Carey Chen (She/they) is an XR developer and simulation engineer who investigates data as a creative material and spatial rendering as a canvas. Their work explores the friction between human agency and the algorithmic systems that monitor and manipulate us. During their residency at Matadero Medialab, they worked with artists on Navigating Militarized Urban Futures, translating the logic of surveillance into immersive gameplay. With a background in technical simulation and physical computing, they developed XR Training tools for MoPT to transform clinical procedures into embodied knowledge and now working at Dassault Systèmes to develop generative architectural solutions for optimized design and construction.

Award-winning Project 'EchoMemo': AI Pipelines in Social XR Apps

Lightning talk

As an AI glass & VR headset-based wellbeing XR app, EchoMemo had won the Grand Award and Track Winner in Cambridge XR Hackathon and was invited to showcased at the Immersive Rally 10th Anniversary where it was demoed to more than 100+ participants to strong praise.

As a XR developer behind this project, Carey is planning to expand on the AI pipelines involved in this project: from speech-based interactions, structured dialogue systems, to spatial object generation. They are also going to talk about the insights from the XR design where the natural integration between the technology and the experience happened.
