Klemens Zleptnig is the founder of creative workline GmbH and a senior Kotlin engineer and mobile architect from Austria. He has more than 20 years of experience designing and building software products, with a focus on Android, Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Kotlin Multiplatform, Spring Boot and AI-enabled mobile applications.
He works on mobile products for companies, public-sector applications and his own software products, combining hands-on engineering with software architecture and product thinking.
Since 2013, he has been the founder and co-organizer of AndroidHeads Vienna, an Android and mobile developer community with more than 600 members and part of the Google Community Leads Platform. He also co-organized droidcon Vienna.
Beyond the Map: Why Android Navigation Is Harder Than Rendering a Route

Putting a map into an Android app is easy. Building a usable navigation experience is not.
This lightning talk focuses on one practical lesson from working with map-heavy Android apps: a map SDK and a navigation product are very different things. Using MapLibre-Compose and Ferrostar as reference points, we will look at the hidden work behind route rendering, camera behavior, location state, rerouting, offline expectations, Compose integration, and UX recovery.
The goal is to give Android developers a quick decision framework for evaluating open-source map and navigation stacks before they commit to building on top of them.
