I started as a PMO at Deutsche Telekom before deciding to become an engineer from scratch. Before graduating from Metropolia University, I joined Zalando as an iOS developer — and soon found myself shipping features to millions of users… while quietly wondering if I really belonged. Now, I talk about the parts of tech we don’t always put on LinkedIn.
Your Career GPS Has No Signal - What Happens After You Hit the Peak?
Session
In tech, we’re told that learning is everything. Learn fast. Learn continuously. Learn forever. But after a few years in the industry, many engineers discover something unexpected: You can learn constantly and still stay exactly where you are.
You switch technologies, adopt new patterns, fill gaps in your knowledge — and yet you feel like you’re moving in circles. Different tools. Same ceiling. This talk introduces the concept of the Skill Loop Trap — a subtle career plateau where your effort is enormous, your progress is visible, but your trajectory is flat.
We’ll explore why this happens even to strong performers:
1) when learning becomes a safety zone,
2) when “upskilling” replaces real growth,-
3) when career direction is missing,
4) and when you accidentally build a version of yourself that’s always improving… but never evolving.
